1--For my blog readers would you mind telling us a little about who you are and how you became a parent of a special needs child?
I had a sudden case of severe preclampsia so,my baby had to be delivered by emergency C section when i was only 6 months pregnant. She had a severe brain hemorage shortly afterwards causing Cerebral Palsy.
2--How would you explain to a parent the best way to advocate for their child?
I see an advocates role as an intense manager or attorney/client relationship. We represent the child and must be ready to do whatever it takes to make sure they get what they need and deserve.
3--Every parent of a special needs child needs a support regardless if he or she is a new parent with a newborn or an experienced parent with a 20 year old. What type of support system do you have in place?
I'm working to expand my support system. At this point my emotional support comes from a few close friends and several online groups for parents of children with special needs.
4--How do you spend family time when it's just the two of you?
Family time for us involves watching television together.
5--What makes you happy? (I ask this question because I'm working on my own little Happiness Project http://www.happiness-project.com/ --I'm hoping to gain a little insight into my own happiness through other's reasons for what brings them happiness.)
What makes me happy are very simple things like a trip to the local thrift store,or hugging my cat. I'm working hard to figure out what else makes me happy.
6--Do you have any websites you'd like to share?
I'm not really attached to any particular websites, I just check out whatever is helpful at the time, so I don't have any to share.
