33::52 Fridays and a {moment}

33::52 Fridays
With this week's photo I wanted to celebrate Aaron's accomplishments. Through determination and hard work on Aaron's part as well as the therapists and team he has at school Aaron can stand for moments. The strength he has gained in his legs -and arms too- has made my job as his parent much easier. This summer has been focused on teaching him that moving his body is his responsibility. We've worked on transfers-moving from one area to another, ei: from wheelchair to vehicle. He worked with his assistant most of the summer going in and out of her car to get out and about around town. Aaron and I took our first solo trip by taxi to get groceries one day last week and I am proud to say that he was able to get in and out of the taxi with my guidance and help without me having to physically lift the full 75 pounds that he is. And yes I had been doing just that the past year.
He's getting so tall!! The original reason why I wanted the photo was to gauge our heights.

Friday Moment
Aaron's moment this week was spent on a swing at the park. Two years ago I had tried the "big kid swings" and I remember he lacked the upper body strenghth equilibrium to balance himself on that thin little rubber seat. This year things were different and I could see the changes in his trunk control and the strenghth he had in his body! He was even able to be pushed for 10 minutes.

Life is good.

Way to go on the hard work!!!! I know there are SO. MANY. HOURS. of work behind this post.

Growing up I remember that my brother, who has a seizure disorder, would learn to walk/feed himself and then lose it all after a grand mal.
Lots of work, lots of work.
God bless!

I LOVE this picture!! What perseverance is behind that boy of yours! How exciting that he is working so hard and gaining more trunk control and doing things he wasn't previously doing! How fun about the swinging too!
