Introducing Jan. I thought I would call her Joy but she looks like a Jan to me.

The very reason I bought this machine was for machine quilting.
I tested it out and I'm over the moon in love!
Straight quilting on the left and free motion on the right.

I'm pleased as punch that I have my new machine and she works so well.
However I'm in a bit of a funk. I'm getting used to these 6 plus hour Aaron-free days.
I feel lost during the day and don't know how to spend my time wisely.
Yes I know the obvious answer is to sew. But I don't feel inspired to sew.
I think I'm in a bit of a funk adjusting to the new routine.
I've got 3 swaps to get out at the end of the month and I don't want to start sewing for sale until those are done.
I've got 2 semi-done and have yet to start the 3rd. Then again I'm uninspired and unmotivated.
I feel like I'm in a fog and feel lost without my boy around here.
Tell me this passes and I'll be able to get on with my days and actually enjoy all this time to myself.
And be productive as well.

Ah she is lovely! I predict you and she will have many happy hours together.
You know the fog will pass. they always do. Here's hoping it's sooner than later. But if it's later, those three deadlines ought to give you some motivation!
Sarah
i know how you feel. not the 6 hours away from my children part, but the sewing funk/wasting time funk. i say walk away! read a good book, watch a movie, go for a bike ride. don't torture yourself by feeling like you should sew, but then you don't. you'll feel the inspiration again, so why torture yourself in the mean time?
yeah, it's a wee bit odd to re-adjust to a new schedule.
and free motion quilting? ::swoon::
I am so happy she has a name. Beautiful machine.
I have a hard time getting into the swing of thing when school starts. I still have 2 kids at home, but it still is an adjustment.
She is lovely!!The quilting is gorgeous your really going to produce some dazzlers with it!!
You know what I do when I am in a funk I go buy a magazine on what ever subject interests me to get my creative juice going again..
Take care
Diane
Just looked back to your post on June 9th when you were not so sure you and Aaron would make it through 74 days of summer! As a mother who for the first time in 20 years did not have to have kids prepared for the first day of school I can assure you that after a few days you will be in the new routine and this will also seem 'normal'!
I love that you named her. A very fitting and wise name.
Keep on rocking those quilts.
Hey Laura, you need to go back to school. Not literally but mentally. Write yourself out a schedule of your day. Pretend you are in school. Maybe from 10-11am sew, 11am-12pm work on swap, 12:00-12:30 lunch, 12:30-1pm nap/reading etc..If hour intervals don't work try 2 hours intervals or even 1/2 hour intervals. I feel this way every time I have too much time in front of me. My problem is that I become frozen with so many choices. I mean I have a hundred things I could do and I don't know which to do first.
Your coming to montreal!!!! Yes I want to see you. We have preschool in the morning but maybe after that I can head downtown. I'd have to be home for 2:30 to meet Chanelles school bus but maybe we could have lunch?
i'm so thrilled for you. congratulations. give yourself time and permission to miss him. give yourself time. you'll find a groove i'm sure!a
You will be fine. Your funk will lift and pretty soon, you'll have inventory for your store!!
Congrats on the beautiful machine. I wouldn't know what to do with it!!
Loved hearing from you. I'm sending your cat back to you!!
Hugs and love, T
Congrats on the new machine! Jan is beautiful!! :)
I'm sure you'll be out of your funk soon. I miss my girlies too, but Ella and I have finally after a month settled in to a nice routine.
Your so talented Laura I can't wait to see what you make with the new machine.
