Christmas Day

Here he came crawling through the hallway trudging his trusty spiderman puzzle on a bed tray.
He's obsessed with this puzzle.

Opening gifts. He's not one of those overly excited children that tears off the paper and exclaims how much they love the present. It made me a little sad as I thought I'd get some reaction from him but no. It sets him apart from children his age and for a brief moment I mourned what I didn't have. It didn't last long though as there were a lot of presents to open!
Aaron had a system going for opening his presents. He chose all the ones with matching paper first then went to the next colour of paper. It was funny to see his little system. He kept trying to open a blue one but I had to direct him to another present. I wanted to save that one for last as I knew it would be a big hit.

And a big hit it was! I hem and hawed for weeks about this present and left it to the last minute. Christmas Eve at 8.30 pm I hauled out boxes of photos and went through them picking and choosing them at randam according to what would best tell Aaron's story.
By 11.30 pm I was finished. Although I didn't add any writing, which can always come later.
It was a big hit this present and I could barely take it away from him to start his day.
He went to his dad's from Friday morning to Sunday afternoon.
The first thing he asked for when he returned home:
"I want my picture book."

We spent the afternoon and evening at my brother's house with his girlfriend and their respective kids.
It went well for the most part but my brother being my brother and well some moments were not so stellar.
I brought my niece home with me to spend not one night but two.

Good bye Christmas!
See you next year!!

That tree is gorgeous!

I like Aaron's system; it never occurred to me. I opened stuff by size or at the behest of the givers. I also made it last by carefully removing tape so as to preserve the paper. It drove my family crazy and I knew (and it was sweet that) they were eager to see my reaction, but I was putting off the crash, the sadness I'd feel that Christmas Day is over so early in the day. All that anticipation dead-ends abpruptly when you reveal the last present.

Now, I'm so over collecting that kind of clutter, that I sometimes throw out cards immediately after reading them. I keep them only as long as they're useful, and sometimes a brief smile is all I want, so the card doesn't make it further than the mailbox area.
