Another Monday, another meme

I treated myself to new tools of the trade Saturday and boy it is inspiring me to make so many pretty things. Forgive me for being forthright but I've a question for my readers:

If I made quilts to sell is anyone interested?

I'm terrified to take that make-to-sell plunge.

I searched high and low, which is equivalent to two stores, for a Nintendo DS for Aaron. I didn't find the one I wanted for him (red and black) so I had to make creative decision. I got a silver one and slapped some Mario decals on there and a protective sleeve and called it good. (Christmas day he cried at my brother's house because he wanted to play with the one his cousin got, which was black and red. He has also cried when he's seen my little friends bring them over, again black and red.) I was worried he'd not like the silver since all he's seen was black and red. He was sort of happy and played with it Saturday evening but hasn't seen it since because it's kind of under mama's pillow. Mama likes to play at bedtime. Shhhh....

Now for the meme part. Same meme as the other day Gimmee Five:

These questions are from Work in progress....
1. How did you get started in quilting?
I met a friend the summer of '95 and she was into making quilts. I fell in love with it and went to work learning how by watching lots of programs on PBS and going to the library and taking out lots of books. I find I'm still learning even after 13 years. My taste in styles and patterns as well as piecing has evolved over time. I've never been one to follow to follow patterns in magazines or purchased patterns. There's that thing that I can't read patterns. So I am mostly inspired by what I see. I sketch out designs, do the math and get to work. My favorite part is buying the fabric for a project and then pulling the finished product out of the dryer, hanging it on the line and taking photos.

2. What are your favourite book, favourite movie and favourite song?
Favorite book: The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. Oh how I love these books. I'm so excited in July a graphic novel comes out with the characters as well as the 8 book in the series comes out in September.
Favorite movie: If there was a movie I'd watch over and over again it'd have to be the Wizard of Oz. It has entranced me since I was a little girl. I don't own the movie and must remedy this! I must share this love with Aaron!
Favorite song: I love music so much and my favorites change over time. My favorite all time band would be Matchbox Twenty. Right now my favorites I've been listening to is Nickelback. Again my tastes in music have changed since I've gotten older. Last year A's dad walked into the house with old school Metallica blasting and he couldn't beleive his ears that I was listening to heavy metal. Little old me who when married to him listened to music of the 60's and 70's.
3. What are your hopes for 2009?
My hopes for 2009 are to be as creative as I can be. Share my talents with others as best I can. Not to lose sight of myself and learn that bad relationships aren't good for me. They don't deserve my time, energy or patience. Time to cut the cords. I will instead forge a better relationship with myself. In the end I realized that these are but a few people in the world and probably will never see the good person I am. By continuing the relationship will only worsen the one I have with myself. By the end of the year I hope to be comfortable with being alone and not partenered. I hope to enjoy life as one. My new motto is "One is fun"!
4. Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging January 2006 after I'd been reading them for several months. I thought this was interesting, and a little self centered as well. I totally felt self concious for about a year after. I didn't know what to say although I had lots to say. I didn't know what kind of blog to have. There are so many out there. I often ask myself am I a Mommyblog, a Craftyblog, a Selfblog. In the end the answer is I'm all of them and more. This is just a little visual into our world. After 3 years I don't feel so alone anymore. I've learned so much about who I am. So many people have given me back pieces of myself that I'd lost through the years. I've learned people will love me no matter what, that they see the good person I am even though I have some issues. That's an amazing feeling! And one I'm so glad I got out of blogging! I'm resolving a lot of those issues!

5. What is the one food you could not live without?
Sadly I couldn't live without all food. HA! It'd be chocolate. Most definately.

If I were going to sell quilts, I would try to find ways to market them to non-quilters. You could use Etsy or look for shops that sell handmade items in your area.

Give it a shot! You would be good at designing making quilts for boys. If it doesn't work out you will be left with some quilts to use or give as gifts. And that's not so bad.

I've always thought you could successfully sell your work. And not just the quilts, but everything, down to the doll-diapers. People pay a lot for far lesser-quality items. Because you're so kind, the only problem I can think of is that you would undercharge.

I second the Etsy idea. You could put up samples to gauge interest. If you're up to it, you could start working on something while you wait for what is sure to be a deluge of requests.
