My Green Thumb

March 16 I planted some tomato seeds. I longed for a garden in our new backyard but unfortunately I cannot plant in the ground outside. The ground is not fertile enough for planting and the dirt is very yucky. I will try my hand at container gardening this year. I haven't planted anything since Aaron was a little critter in my tummy. That year which I love to dub the Year of the Tomato was the most awesome year for planting. I remember weeding the garden with a 6 month pregnant belly. Unfortunately I was away having the baby 3 hours away and I couldn't harvest the tomatoes. I'm really sad we didn't have any pictures of it. From what Aaron's dad told me he gave away over 200 tomatoes. He brought me two huge tomatoes when I was staying at the R0nald McD0nald h0use. They were delicious!
March 27. Last Friday they were like the above picture. My niece came to stay over that night. The next day we went tubing and had supper with her dad and we were away from the house all day. When we came back around 9 that evening my niece was all surprised that a tonne of the seedlings had sprouted litterally during the day! Her face and exclamation was just too cute!
I thinned out those seedlings on the left of the picture. I have yet to do the other pots. If they do well I may sell some of the seedlings. I've already been asked if I'd sell some. I'm going to give some to my porch neighbours of course. Just because he is so cute and I like to make him smile.
Here's a side view of my little plants. These won't go outside in bigger pots until the middle of June. Here's to hoping they create lots of fruit!
Here's a funny story about the Year of the Tomato. I was watching Martha one day and she was talking about tomato plants. How to care for them and tips on how to ensure lots of fruit. She suggested that once they'd been in established in the ground to trim the leaves and the tips. It took me a week to convince my ex that it was a good suggestion and Martha knew what she was talking about. Finally he relented (don't argue a pregnant woman) and went outside one day with a pair of scissors snipping tips and trimming leaves. When the deed was done he asked me to go take a look at the mess that was made of the precious tomato plants. Oh was he angry for several days. I have to admit the plants were pretty sad. Yet...a couple months later the tip worked. We ended up with bushier rounder plants instead of tall thin ones. That's how we ended up with so many tomatoes!

How exciting, a new home for your thoughts! I bet this year will be a great one for tomatoes too. I've never had good luck starting them from seed.

I'm bookmarking you...

Hugs!

I had tomato plants a couple of years ago. I had so many that we gave most of them away! It was great hearing from you! Congrats on the new mop! The amount of linoleum in my house is minimal so I usually just clean them with a rag. I added your new blog to my favorites! I love the new blog! You loving it too? Big hugs!

Great plants. I can't wait to get my garden growing. I usually buy plants but maybe just maybe I will try the seeds this time. Hmmm something to think about.
I didn't know you were moving and when I went by to visit and saw you were gone I panicked a bit and was worried!! I'm glad I found your new place :)

Look at the little tomato babies!! I keep saying I'm going to do some container strawberries - but I never seem to get there (being rather lazy, I suppose).

Welcome to your new blog!
